Puhoi River Kayak Cruise!

So a few weeks ago my family and I did a kayaking cruise down the puhoi river.  We started from Puhoi  township and kayaked all the way to Wenderholm.  This was really, really fun! Although my arms and abs were definitely feeling it the next day.  For anyone in the Northern Auckland area (New Zealand) should definitely give it a go.

Anyway I thought I would share some of the photos we took!

So there you go! I hope you enjoyed my post for today! Next post is coming in the next couple days.

Have a fantastic week!

Love you all,
Till next time,

Things I love about Christmas!

So this week I decided to get into the festive spirit! Although this is probably the most festive thing I've done this year with Christmas in mind, I am starting to get more and more excited!  Although I am working so much in the lead up till Christmas and it will be a stressful time I'm looking forward to spent time with family and eat lots of food! So here's my favourite things about Christmas.

1) The sunny weather! In New Zealand we are in the Southern Hemisphere so we are going into summer at the moment and the weather is almost always lovely and warm! It's great to eat Christmas lunch outside and spending time at the beach with the family.

2) Gifting presents! Although I am the worst at purchasing presents for others I love giving people something that makes them smile! I also love the smell of the wrapping paper.

3) The food! I mean this ones obvious.  Who doesn't like Christmas food? My favourite is probably all the salads and meat selection! My favourite is also pavlova and my mothers home made pasatio ice cream is amazing.

4)  Christmas decorations! I love Christmas trees! In particular the real ones as they make the entire house smell like christmas! I also love the fairy lights during Christmas time.  It always looks so magical  and lovely!

5) Is family time! As well as this being my favourite thing it is also the most stressful thing! Hahaha I have quite a big family who all come over every year to our place for Christmas lunch! So it's hectic although I love spending time everyone and catching up with those I haven't seen for a long time.

6) Christmas music and movies! I certainly do love me a good Christmas song!
Here's some of my favourite songs:
Mistletoe by Justin Bieber
I'll Be Home by Meghan Trainor
All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Sam Smith
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Justin Bieber
This Christmas by Chris Brown
Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande
Winter Wonderland/Don't Worry Be Happy by Pentatonix
White Christmas by Michael Bublé

Some of my favourite Christmas movies:
The Holiday
Polar Express
Four Christmass's
Love Actually
Home Alone
Elf
Santa Clause
Shrek The Halls
Arthur Christmas

I hope you enjoyed my Christmas favourites! Enjoy!

Have a fantastic week!

Love you all,
Till next time,

68 days and life update!

The final countdown has started! Not to long yet till I go away.  It's going to go unbelievably fast as I am in the middle of exams right now. After exams I will be working full time right up till Christmas Day six days a week, then I go away for New Years, then spend one night at home before I go away to the South Island for a couple weeks.  Then after I get back from the South Island I only have about two weeks before I go away.  It's exciting times ahead.  Although there are so many things I will miss.  It's a stressful time but I'm so excited to get out, explore and to leave the nest. I have lots to learn and it will be a shock to my system after living in the safe bundle of my parents care.

I have started collecting gear I will need over there.  I bought a ski jacket the other day.  Next on the list are ski pants, goggles and thermals.  I will also need a few more pairs of jeans! I'm running on a low supply.  I have also almost finished a bucket list of places to visit which will go up on my blog in a few days hopefully!

On another equally as exciting note, I got my braces off.  It's been a very long journey for me with quite a few hiccups but finally after five years of photos, moulds, braces, new dentists, teeth extractions and hundreds of appointments, I have pretty teeth.  I am super happy with my new teeth and excited to finally not have braces.  I now have to wear a retainer full time for six months.  Although the retainer is clear it is still pretty obvious (well to me anyway) and quite uncomfortable.  The retainer is a lot more work than braces which I didn't realise.  I'm having to take it in and out every time I eat and clean it regularly.  I'm only on day two so I think I am still getting used to it, so I reckon it will get easier.  Well that's what I'm hoping anyway! All for pretty teeth!

I am having a blog day today and I am going to write several blog posts that I have been planning for quite some so they will be posted in the next few weeks.  So stay tuned for those.

Anyways, that's me for today.  I hope you enjoyed my little low key, update kind of blog post for today.

Have a fantastic week!

Love you all,
Till next time,
Megan Cook.

My beauty favourites! November, 2015

I hope you all had a fabulous few weeks.  Here are some of my makeup items I have been loving at the moment! Enjoy!

1) Number one is Rimmel, Londons stay matte long lasting pressed powder.  This product is my holy grail setting powder! It helps my makeup stay on so much longer.

2, 3, 4) The next three products are Revlon colour stay eyebrow liner in the colour light dark, Rimmel glam eyes liquid liner and Australis white eyeliner.

5) Number three is Rimmel wake me up concealer.  I think I'm usually the shades ivory or soft beige depending on the season.  Works wonders at covering and brightening those under eye bags.

6) Next is my favourite BB cream! I wear this everyday as my skin breaks out when I wear foundation to often so I just wear BB cream.  It gives a really nice light coverage and leaves my skin looking really luminous and healthy.

6, 7) Last but not least, are my favourite mascaras.  Rimmel scandal eyes extreme and Maybelliene colossal volume extreme.

So there are my favourite makeup products recently! I hope you liked them! I have more posts on the working progress but unfortunately I'm stuck, smack bang in the middle of exams at the moment so I don't have much time for my blog.  Will post more regularly in a couple weeks when exams are over.  I also get my braces of very, very soon! So that's exciting news after 4.5 years of lots of delays in the process of having my train tracks it will feel great to have them removed.  Looking forward to pretty teeth at last.  Hopefully the stressful process will be worth it.

Have a fantastic week!

Love you all,
Till next time,
Megan Cook.

Creative writing

This is my creative writing I wrote for an internal at school! Thought I might just throw it on here and see what you guys think!

Creative writing

I sat in a pool of my own despair and displeasure, inside the four walls of the gleaming white room. I could feel his warmth radiating against my cold, insipid, toxic filled skin.  We sat in silence while he held tightly onto my numb hands.  I didn't want him here.  I despised his presence.  I thought I had avoided him altogether since the MRI scan and the first few treatments but he's persistent.

My mother sits hunched up into a chair on the other side of the room reading a magazine featuring a model with long golden hair.  She looks happy and sun kissed and this makes me feel an ache in the pit of my stomach. This is the most distant I've ever seen my mother when we are here.  The first time round she was the one holding the deep shiny silver bowel beside me not him.  Things are different this time.

I am older and more aware this time unfortunately.  Being aware of my situation is just as poisonous as the toxins running through my veins,  dragging me into a deep pool of anguish.

The clock keeps ticking .   I'm surrounded with the small hum of machines, the tip toe of footsteps through the corridor and the small breaths of cold, silent bodies in the room surrounding me.  Every now and again I catch small glimpses of a young girl , about 10 years old through the white sheets hanging from the ceiling. I can hear murmuring coming from her side of the sheets.  She too sits beside a victim of her own helplessness with a grim look on her face.  I feel for her. I was exactly her six years ago and here I was again.

The bright lights were beginning to burn my eyes.  The overwhelming crisp, toxic-meets-cleaning product  smell of the room was starting to seep into my brain,  through my nose and down into the pit of my stomach where it sat distilled.  It's only a matter of time till my misery is projected out of my gob. It falls down into the silver bowl I used to refer to as a space craft as a child. I  stop. I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand. Then a salty tear rolls down my face.  This is why I didn't want him here.  I couldn't bare him seeing me like this.   I then thought to myself, this is only the beginning.  There would be worse situations he would see me in yet to come. I knew it.  I also knew it would break his heart. This was the  reason I resented his presence.  I had been through this all before but he hasn't.  This is what I'm trying to protect him from.

He slid his fingers through my curly shoulder length hair and for a moment I lose my train of thought and I feel like the poison is draining right out of me.  I realise a thick curly lock of my hair toppled from my scalp on to the crystal white bed behind us.  This is the longest my hair has ever been since I was five and it has taken me four years to grow it back.  As a sixteen year old girl my curly sun kissed hair is everything to me.  It makes me feel feminine. It makes me feel pretty and I am about to lose it all. This scared him.   As soon as it hits the bed like a stone hitting glass shattering it like it shatters his hopes at this moment.  His expression changes more quickly than I thought.  He looked at me and kissed me on the forehead as if to say it's not a big deal and continued to wait in silence until the plastic bag of horror was empty.  This shocked me and my anger at him slowly evaporated out of my skin and floated out to cyber space.

The next moment  a perky white coated lady came over with a large gleaming grin on her face and said "You can go now once I unhook you Ella." Her smile feels sarcastic to me. How can anyone be so joyful in such a depressing place?  She says "Have a great day."  As he gracefully lifts me up and we began our slow journey to the car hand in hand. I left the confinement of those four white walls that day with a new kind of poison I've never had before.  One that could kill me more than the one that little plastic bag could ever seep into my skin.  The poison that is the unbreakable love I have for him.

I'm 18!

Hello everyone! Long time no see! It's lovely to be back and I apologise for my absence.  I have been incredibly busy!

But anyways! I have since turned 18 and I am now finishing my last few weeks of school.  This is very exciting as I am now legal to drink and ending my studies after 13 years of studies.  I have 7 days left in which I will be studying furiously, participating in senior pranks and a drunk walk to school on the last day.  Those last two are rituals the year 13 leavers at my school do every year which I have looked forward to for years.  I also have graduation and leavers dinner to look forward too (I might have even put a sneaky confession in the box to be read out at leavers dinner 😱.) Also how cool are the new emojis!

I was very spoilt for my birthday and had a fantastic day! I got showered with gifts and had a lovely dinner with my boyfriend and family.  It is also my sisters birthday today and my boyfriends birthday tomorrow so I have a weekend full of celebrations ahead of me.

Tonight I'm going for drinks with a couple friends and my older sister and brother and a few of their friends.  I can now drink legally so that's cool!  (Definitely haven't been drinking illegally for years.😂😉) Although everyone is going to question my ID because I look about twelve.

So there's my little update of life! I hope you all are having a lovely time wherever you are.  I will try and keep you posted through exam time but I will be very crunched for time and experiencing a lot of stress.  Although I do have several posts planned out to do like a story I wrote for English, a graduation get ready for me and a lot of others! So look forward to some exciting posts!

Have a great weekend,
Love you all,
Megan Cook

My favourite hair care products for luscious locks!

Hello everyone! This week I'm blogging about my favourite hair care products! These are all products I have used for a long time and have trialled and stuck with for the last few years.  My mothers a hair dresser so they are more high end products sold in the salon more than the supermarket shelves.  These products are all items my mother uses regularly on her customers of many different hair types.

Some important notes to take in before we roll on with this blog post is that I wash my hair every second evening.  I also have very long curly hair which is quite natural in colour with only a small amount of highlights.  My hair is also quite knotty and these are just products I have found that work with my hair and these may not be ideal for others with hair different to mine.

The first items I use on a regular basis are my Biolage colour last shampoo and conditioner.  I have quite knotty long hair and the conditioner is great at getting those pesky birds nests out.  It also leaves my hair soft and quite light weight which I do struggle to achieve with other shampoos and conditioners as my hair is so thick.  It is also still fantastic to use if your hair is not coloured as mine is very natural in colour at the moment and it still works as great as when I was bleach blonde.

These next two products, Matrix Biolage Keratindose and Marix oil wonders Amazonian MuruMuru I use after my shower.  I put a small pump of each through wet hair with my hands focusing on the ends in particular after washing my locks.  I use the keratin cream mostly for knots while the oil for shine and together they help a lot with my hairs health and softness.

My next product is my go to dry shampoo from Batiste . This is honestly a life saver.  My hair can get quite greasy and this makes my day two hair look like it's been freshly washed.  I just spray it through the roots of my hair quite generously and then ruffle it through with my fingers and voila! Clean hair!

I also use the Joico Silk Result on my hair when I straighten it to protect it from the heat.  I have found it has been really effective with my hairs health and makes it smell really nice and feel really soft!  It has also lasted forever! I've had it for about four years.  Although I do admit I barely ever straighten my hair! I'm too lazy! But the odd time I do I feel like it really helps protect it from harsh straightening and curling.

Next is the Matrix curl wonder! This stuff is sea salt spray and I apply this too my hair when I have beachy waves in! (Actually every day, my natural hair is beachy waves). It makes my curls look a little fuller and defined while controlling the frizz! Just spray a few times and ruffle it though your hair for more defined curls!

So those are my go to products! I hoped this was interesting and helped those in need for a few fresh products for their hair or those just simply interested in what products work and are out there!

This is not sponsored and are all my own personal opinion.

Thank you,
See you until next time,
Love from Megan :)
